Why the Longest Day of Play

  • We care about kids!

  • 24% of Kids in Kentucky ages 10 to 17 have obesity.

  • CDC Recommends that children ages 6 to 17 years of age do 60 minutes or more of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity.

  • Less than one-quarter of children participate in 60 minutes of physical activity daily.

  • Regular physical activity improves cardio-respiratory fitness, builds strong bones and muscles, controls weight, and reduces anxiety and depression.

  • Physically active Students tend to have better grades, school attendance, memory, and classroom behaviors.

What is the Longest Day of Play

​

The Longest Day of Play is a community event that encourages kids to engage in physical activity through fun interactive activities.  It connects kids and families with supportive community partners who can assist in their children’s health and well-being. 

​

The Longest Day of Play will be a ½ mile course with numerous stations where kids will engage in fun outdoor activities. Community partners will offer information and resources to children and their families. 

​

The event is co-sponsored by Oldham County Health Department and Covenant Church.  It will take place on June 20th, the day with the most daylight, from 6:00 pm to sundown (9:09 pm).  The fun course and activities will occur on the beautiful Covenant Church property located at 909 West Jefferson Street, LaGrange.
